The Ice sheet opened in April of 1994. It was built at a cost of over $6 million. Funding for the ice sheet came from 3 sources: $3.25 million from the Utah Sports Authority, $2 million from Weber County and $1 million from Community donations.

In June of 1997, the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympics selected the Ice Sheet as the Olympic Curling Venue. Since that time, the community has embraced the sport of curing and has a very active curling club. In March of 2001, the Ice Sheet hosted the World Junior Curling Championships featuring 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams from around the world!

In addition to curling the Ice Sheet offers public skating, a learn to skate program and private figure skating lessons. It is home to the Weber State University Hockey Club, high school hockey and a women’s hockey team.
